Pharm-ERA 3rd consortium meeting - 24-26/11 & 01-03/12 – VIRTUAL

The 3rd consortium meeting took place online and was a great success thanks to the participation of our members during this six half-days event.

This consortium meeting succeeded in combining scientific depth, strategic coordination, and career development. With strong contributions from the Doctoral Candidates, engaged participation across committees, and inspiring perspectives from academia and industry, the event strengthened collaboration and set the stage for the next steps of the Pharm-ERA programme.

Doctoral Candidates Take Center Stage

One of the central components of the meeting was the series of Doctoral Candidate (DC) presentations. Each fellow presented the current status of their research, showcasing first results, methodological advances, and plans for the next phases of their project. The discussions that followed—often lively and constructive—showed just how much the network values collaboration and shared expertise.

Scientific and Strategic Exchanges

Career Round Table: Bridging Academia and Industry

The Research Committee convened to review progress across work packages, assess the status of deliverables and milestones, and discuss the upcoming Position Paper. The committee also reviewed feedback from the DCs’ training on data analysis, emphasizing continuous improvement of scientific support.
Lectures by Dimitrios Karpouzas and Mechthild Schmitt-Jansen enriched the programme with cutting-edge insights into contaminant impacts on microbial communities in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Their talks bridged fundamental research with applied environmental assessment, reinforcing the scientific backbone of the Pharm-ERA project.

One of the most appreciated sessions was the round table on careers across sectors, featuring four distinguished speakers: Paul Thomas (KREATiS), Luigi Lucini (Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore), Virginie Ducrot (Bayer Crop Science), and Laurent Lagadic (Bayer Crop Science).
They shared candid reflections on their journeys between academia and industry, highlighting the contrasts and synergies between both spheres—from scientific approaches to day-to-day work culture and long-term career development. The discussion offered invaluable insights for DCs considering their next steps after the PhD, inviting questions and open dialogue about future professional perspectives.

Supervisory Board: Aligning Vision and Action

A key moment of the meeting was the Supervisory Board (SB) session, which gathered all participants to review overall project alignment. The SB assessed past actions and budget use, and remind network-wide management rules. Informed by the conclusions of the Research Committee and the Training & Human Resources Committee, the SB ensured that the project remains on track both scientifically and administratively. It was also the opportunity to welcome and meet Nathalie  Chèvre from the University of Lausanne (Switzerland), as a new member of the consortium.

MasterClass on Zenodo

The meeting concluded with a hands-on MasterClass on Zenodo, led by Chloé Bonnineau. Participants learned how deposit data on the plateform, with DCs encouraged to bring their own datasets for a first practical upload. The session supported the project’s commitment to open science and reproducibility.
